Historic
Ensley, Alabama
a vibrant suburb of birmingham
the rich history of ensley
Welcome to Ensley. Founded in 1887 by industrialist Enoch Ensley, this wasn’t a just an ordinary suburb, it was a self-contained industrial empire. The mighty Ensley Works of Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company (TCI) became the largest steel plant in the South, its blast furnaces literally lighting up the night sky.
Ensley was a city within a city.
For decades, the rhythm of life here was set by mill whistles. A vibrant, bustling downtown sprang up along Ensley Avenue, with department stores like Goldstein’s, the majestic Ensley Theater, and classic storefronts serving a community of thousands.
Then, the story changed. Industry shifted, and the furnaces fell quiet. But the soul of Ensley, with its sturdy bones and unstoppable spirit, never left. It’s right here, in the very bricks and beams of our historic buildings.
This is the comeback chapter. And you’re invited to write it.
We’re not just renting event spaces. We’re reopening the doors to history itself. The venues of the Ensley Entertainment District—The Tuxedo Ballroom, Live Loft, and Soho are all restored landmarks. They are where the past isn’t just remembered; it’s your event’s most breathtaking feature.
